Cricket world cup is an event played between the top teams from the world.The event is held after every four years since it was first held in England in 1975.A total of 10 tournaments have been played since its start.Australia have won a record 4 times followed by India and West indies which have won the tournament 2 times each.Following are some of the records created in this tournament....

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs and most centuries scored in the tournament.He played in six world cups and scored a total of 2278 runs which include six centuries and 16 half centuries. Sachin Tendulkar also holds the record for most runs scored in a single tournament.He scored 673 runs in the 2003 world cup helping India reach the semifinal.

Australian fast bowler Glen McGrath holds the record for most wickets in the tournament.He took a total of 71 wickets in the four world cups he appeared.He also holds the record for lowest average. Australian legendary fast bowler averages only 18.19 per wicket in the world cup.He also holds the record for most wickets in a single tournament. He took 26 wickets in the 2007 edition.

 Australian legend Ricky Ponting holds the  record for most sixes hit.He has hit a total of 31 sixes in the world cup.He also holds the record for most catches.Ponting took a total of 28 catches in five world cups he played for Australia from 1996-2011.

The Record for highest partnership in a world cup is held by Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. They scored a total of 318 runs vs Srilanka between them in the 1999 cricket world cup held in .England. Rahul Dravid scored 145 runs and Sourav made 183 runs while on their way to a record partner ship.

India holds the record for most number of runs scored in a single match.They made 413 runs for the loss of 5 wickets vs Bermuda in the 2007 edition.Virendar Sehwag made 114 runs on 87 balls with 17 fours and three sixes.
