Where Eagles Dare

The Guns of Navarone

The Guns of Navarone is a 1961 British-American action adventure war film directed by J.Lee Thompson.The story of the movie is based upon the novel of the same name written by Alistair Mac Lean's which is in turn inspired by the Battle of the Leros  during World War 2.The film follows the efforts of the Allies to destroy the German Long Range Guns that threaten The Allied Guns in The Aegean Sea and prevents 2000 isolated British Soldiers from Being Rescued. A mission by the name of "The Guns of Savo Island"  included in the critically acclaimed game series "Commandos" is also inspired by this movie.The film stars Gregory Peck,David Niven and Anthony Quinn in the lead roles.The film was one of the most expensive films of the 1960s with a budget of $6 million and collected more than $28 million dollars at the box office.

The Great Escape

The Great Escape is a 1963 war film based on an escape attempt made by the Allied Prisoners during World War 2 from a German Camp.The film is based on a book of the same name written by Paul Brick hill.The book is based on the mass escape from Stalag Luft 111 in Sagan Nazi Germany. Although the film is based on real events but several compromises had to be made for the sake of the film.The Film Stars James Garner,Steve McQueen and Richard Attenborough in the lead role.The film was released on 20th June 1963 and was made on a budget of $3.8 million.

Das Boot.

Perhaps the best submarine movie of all time Das Boot is a 1981 epic German War film written and directed  by Wolfgang Petersen.The film follows the life of the German sailors aboard a German U boat and depicts the sheer filth ,terror and pressure the sailors had to endure during their stay aboard the vessel.The film is one of the most expensive films in the history of the German Cinema.The film was released on 17th September 1981 to universal critical acclaim and is considered on of the greatest German film ever made.


Saving Private Ryan.

Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 epic war film written by Robert Rodat and directed by Steven Spielberg.The film is set during the Allied invasion of Normandy and follows the efforts of a group of soldiers who try to rescue a young private from behind enemy lines so that he can return home as two of his elder brothers have already been killed in action.The film stars  Tom Hanks,Vin Diesel and Matt Daemon in the lead roles.The film was released on 24th of July 1998 to universal critical acclaim and grossed more than $450 million at the international box office.The film is particularly noted for its accurate portrayal of history and for its first twenty minutes of intense fighting on the beaches of Normandy as the allied forces fought the Germans in the occupied France.
