Sadruddin Hashwani is a name that needs no introduction in Pakistan.With a net worth of over 1 billion US dollars he is one of the most successful businessman in the country.He is the chairman of the famous Hashoo Group which is one of the largest and most diverse conglomerates in Pakistan.The Hashoo Group has stakes in Cotton,Real Estate,Oil and Gas Exploration,minerals Ceramics,IT,tourism,technology and travel and tourism.The most famous and well known brand of Hashoo Group is the chain of five stars hotels throughout Pakistan.Pearl Continental Hotels and Marriott the two leading chains of five star hotels in Pakistan are owned by Hashoo Group.The Hashoo Group manages and runs a total of 45 companies.
Sadrudddin Hashwani was born in one of the most prominent Ismaili family.His family migrated from Iran to Pakistan in 1850 under the 46th leader of the Ismailis Imam Hassan Ali Shah.Imam Hassan Ali Shah later went to Mumbai India,however Hashwani family chose to stay in Pakistan.They settled in Lasbela district of Baluchistan,His father Hussein Hashwani was a trader of cotton.He used to do business with a prominent British Company.Sadruddin Hashwani was born in 1940.He has seven brothers and sisters.Hashwani was not very good at studies and showed interest in business from a very young age.
His first business was of cotton trading and he partnered with his brother in law for his first business venture.He was a very hard working man and used to work for 18 hours a day in his early days and got no help whatsoever from his business partner as he was not that much into business and used to go home after spending only 2-3 hours at the workplace.A young Sadruddin used to supply cotton in different areas of Balochistan it was a very difficult task for the young business man but his confidence was unwavering.He would buy cotton himself and then get them loaded on trucks under his own supervision.In his early days of business he used to travel on mules to the otherwise in accessible areas of Baluchistan to get his bills cleared.It was his hard work that made this business a success,however, he suffered the first major setback of his business career when he was ousted from the company he created by his brother in law.He did not loose hope and stated a new company which used to supply small iron boxes to the cotton traders.His brother in law was bankrupted soon afterwards.Hashwani on the other hand tasted success like few others and the rest as they say is history.Hahswani also had to face many political turmoils to reach where he is today.He has been arrested,humiliated,his name has been put in exit control list,He also remained in exile in London for five years and has more or less remained a victim of every government because of his habit of saying what is right regardless of the consequences.PC hotels established by the Hashoo group remain the flagship of the group.The PC hotel Karachi was the first five star hotel in Pakistan,Hashwani has also been involved in various philanthropic activities through Hashoo Foundation.
