Mercedes Benz W 140 more commonly known as "The Tank" is a series of flagship vehicles that were manufactured by  Mercedes during the 1990s. With a production price  of over $ 1 billion it is the most expensive project ever undertaken by the Mercedes company. W140 was mass produced until 1998 when they were  succeeded by the W220 class.Mercedes built a total of 432,732 of this class of vehicles. W 140 is also known as the last Mercedes to be over engineered. W140 cost 25% more than its predecessor W  126.The W 140 introduced many innovations which are now common on many vehicles.
